Dog Training FAQs
Quick answers to the questions Arizona dog owners ask us most often.
Will this work for my dog?+
Yes, as long as the plan fits your dog's actual needs and you're willing to follow through after training. The question is usually not whether your dog can learn — it's which approach and timeline make the most sense.
Do you use e-collars?+
Yes — we utilize modern remote collar (E-collar) training as part of our balanced training system. One of the biggest misconceptions about E-collars is that they are harsh or punitive. In reality, when used correctly and professionally, modern low-level remote collars are simply a communication tool that allows for clear, consistent communication with your dog — especially in real-world situations where reliability and safety matter most.
How long should my dog stay in board & train?+
It depends on whether you need foundational obedience, stronger public reliability, or more serious behavior work. Some dogs need a shorter immersion. Some need more time for deeper change and owner transfer.
Will my dog listen to me or only to the trainer?+
Your dog isn't graduating into our life — they're returning to yours. That's why owner handoff and coaching matter so much. We train the dog, but we also teach you how to keep the work going.
What's the difference between board & train and day training?+
Board & train gives your dog immersive structure through an overnight stay. Day training gives your dog professional repetitions during the day while they return home at night.
What issues can you help with?+
We specialize in both obedience training and severe behavior rehabilitation. Whether your dog simply needs better structure and manners or is struggling with serious behavioral issues, our programs are designed to create real-world reliability and lasting change. Some of the most common issues we work with include: • Dog aggression • Human aggression • Leash reactivity • Anxiety and fear-based behaviors • Resource guarding • Separation anxiety • Pulling on leash • Jumping on people • Excessive barking • Door bolting • Poor impulse control • Lack of recall • Off-leash reliability • Overstimulation and hyperarousal • Crate training issues • General obedience and household manners
Is day training enough for behavior problems?+
Sometimes. For lighter issues or owners who want structured weekday help, day training can be excellent. For harder or more established patterns, board & train may be the better fit.
Do you work with puppies?+
Absolutely. In many cases, starting training early is one of the best things you can do for your dog. Puppy training is about far more than teaching basic commands — it's about building healthy habits, proper socialization, confidence, engagement, neutrality, impulse control, and clear communication from the beginning. Early structure and guidance can help prevent many common behavioral issues from developing later on.
How much work will I need to do after training?+
Training does not end when your dog goes home — owner follow-through is a major part of long-term success. Our Board & Train and Day Training programs create the foundation, structure, and understanding your dog needs, but maintaining those results requires consistency at home. The good news is that most owners find life becomes significantly easier once their dog clearly understands expectations and communication. We design our programs to be realistic and sustainable for everyday life. You do not need to spend hours per day "training." Instead, success comes from implementing structure, accountability, and consistency into your normal routine.
